The Equestrian Extravaganza & Charity Fundraiser (September 26) brought barn members and extended community together for a celebration of giving back to this sport by raising funds and awareness for two exceptional non-profit organizations, FalconRidge Equine Rescue (a large rescue and rehabilitation facility in Valley Center) and Uryadi’s Village (a non-profit providing assistance to orphanages and their communities). The event raised over $8,000 and consisted of a Calcutta-style Gambler’s Choice jumper competition, family fun activities, ringside dining provided by Villa Roma Restaurant, a silent auction, and shopping among various industry and community vendors.
A big thank you to all who participated and to our sponsors: Antares, Grand Meadows, CDW Saddlery, Shorecliffs Golf Club, Lake Elsinore Soaring Club, Skindulgence by Judie, American Horse Products, Ortega Tack & Feed, Dover Saddlery, Eqyss, Cowboy Magic, Mrs. Pasture's, Twinkle Toes, Branson Homes & Estates with Windermere, LegalShield, Ashleigh Magnus Photography, and Nancy Albright Photography.
Thank you also to our Hayden instructors, especially Megan Larrabee and Zeschia Booman, for organizing this charity event and for their desire to help those in need.

The Team Hayden Horsemanship Initiative is a new program at Hayden Show Jumping & Riding School that aims to bring riding students together building relationships and partnerships with one another in order to take this barn from great to exceptional! We strive for excellence in all that we do, whether in our riding, horsemanship, or how we treat and relate to each other. Having respect, understanding, and compassion for our fellow equestrians is the core recipe for a successful barn atmosphere.
Our first project has been a fundraising effort (including donations, selling horse cookies, and cleaning tack) and field trip to FalconRidge Equine Rescue, Inc. in Temecula, CA. This organization focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of neglected and abused horses. Our visit was both educational and humbling and left us wanting to do more for this worthy organization.

San Juan Capistrano, CA – April 7, 2013 – Lane Clarke & Semira de Saulieu do it again winning the $40,000 Blenheim Spring Classic II Grand Prix at Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park among 44 other tough competitors. Lane was double clear with the fastest time. Lane rode Semira in only one other grand prix, the 2011 $25,000 Blenheim Summer I Grand Prix, and won that as well.
She's a fabulous mare. In December 2010, Lane and owner, Charlotte Gadbois, travelled to Europe selecting the horse among many with the assistance of Mickey Hayden. In a little over two years, Semira’s performance has been nothing short of spectacular. In addition to her two grand prix wins, in 2012, she placed second in the $25,000 Flintridge Grand Prix and $10,000 Thermal Jr. A/O Classic with Charlotte. That year, she also took Charlotte to the NAJYR Championships in Lexington, Kentucky where they won team Bronze and 4th place overall.
Congratulations, Lane!!!
Kelly Taylor, a Hayden instructor, is also captain of the UC Irvine Equestrian Team. On April 6, she was awarded first place in the Open Over Fences Division at the Zone 8 Championships for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in Parker, Colorado.
She will be representing UCI at IHSA Nationals in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania - May 3-5. Kelly was also awarded the Cacchione Cup for her region. The Cup is awarded to the number one rider for each region, and those who win this award compete in the Cacchione Cup Tournament at Nationals against all of the other Cup recipients from across the country.
Kelly has also been asked to be one of three riders to represent the United States in the American AIEC (Association Internationale Des Etudiants Cavaliers, or the International University Equestrian Federation) Team.

Ten horses and their riders made the trip to Sacramento for two weeks of competition at the Sacramento International Horse Show. As usual, our Hayden Show Jumping contingent performed with great results. In a number of large classes, our riders took first, second, and third places and earned chempionships and reserve championships demonstrating the strength of our training program here at Nellie Gail.
At left: Elena Bonvicini, Serenity Phillips, and Summer Phillips
Many may have noticed the absence of our feline friend, Johnny Cat, who passed in mid-September. Johnny was very social and enchanted both horses and humans as he strolled the barn aisles and equestrian center property. He was always willing to come when called, hang out, be pet, and picked up. He was popular among our summer campers and anyone who had the pleasure to interact with him. Johnny was confident and friendly with an enormous personality. He is sadly missed and will remain in our hearts and thoughts.
Hayden Show Jumping made the September cover of Riding Magazine with North American Young Rider, Charlotte Gadbois and her horse Semira de Saulieu. A two-page article inside the magazine highlights some of what makes our training program so successful.

Hayden riders proved that they excel in hunters and equitation at the Victory County Level Show in September. Ella Blott riding Sargeant Pepper placed first in the OCHSA 2”6” Medals. Emma Montgomery riding Romantica Z took a first and a third in Children’s 2’9” Hunters and came away with the Reserve Championship in Children’s Hunters. Anne Cole also did very well earning two second place finishes and two third place finishes in Jumpers with her horse David who is just coming back after an injury. Well done, riders!!!
Charlotte Gadbois riding her new mare, Semira de Saulieu helped the Zone 10 Team (California and Nevada) earn a Bronze Team Medal at the North American Young Rider Championships and an Individual 4th Place Finish on July 22 in Lexington, Kentucky. The pair navigated the notoriously difficult courses at the championships where fence heights reached 1.50 M (nearly 5 feet). We are very proud of her accomplishments reaching this level of competition in such a short period of time with Semira.
Congratulations Charlotte!!!
